Abstract
The aim of the project is to contribute to the understanding of educational assistance processes in collaborative learning activities in text-based asynchronous communication environments, and to analyze their impact on the development and results of these types of activities.
Considering the results of previous research projects carried out by the research group, we propose that collaborative knowledge construction processes are closely linked to a distribution of support among all the participants, i.e., the phenomenon of "distributed teaching presence".
This concept is the foundation for the two specific goals of the project:
(1) identifying the manifestation of teaching presence in participants’ contributions and analyzing its relationship with the process and the results of the collaborative knowledge construction in the studied activities; and
(2) establishing individual profiles and group indicators of participation and connectivity associated to different modalities and to varying degrees of distributed teaching presence in these activities. ..(+)
